DIRECTIONS:
Please keep in mind that Italy is an Old Country with many roads not paved and/or not labeled clearly. I recommend using Google Maps to find Casale Delle Querce and to keep an eye out for strategically placed sandwich signs/signals along the country roads once you exit the freeway.

Casale Delle Querce

A 17th Century stone farmhouse in the heart of Italy, just outside of the village of Giove. The stone farmhouse portion is the original structure, while the independent studio apartments are 50 yards up the driveway in front of the swimming pool. The large terracotta terrace in front of the stone villa is the setting for the ceremony and dinner reception, pending weather, with sunset views overlooking the green Tiber River Valley.

The farmhouse sits on 10 acres of farmland with 67 mature olive trees and various other fruit trees. It faces south, west and north, allowing for beautiful, warm, long sunny days. The swimming pool will be available to use (albeit it might be a little cold since it is April). In the month of April the days are usually mild and sunny, with brisk nights. Please check the weather predictions as we get closer to the trip dates.

Umbria is known for its hilltop villages and lush greenery. Culinarily speaking, Umbria offers world-renowned truffles and cured meats, prepared with care and following traditions dating back centuries, to this day. We will celebrate Jizelle & Tom at Casale Delle Querce and we hope you will enjoy exploring the region around us while on holiday (bring comfortable walking shoes too!).

Giove

Perched directly above Casale Delle Querce (where our celebration will take place), the little village of Giove has 600 inhabitants and an imposing castle (privately owned) built in 1100. Explore the cobble streets on foot and get lost in the beauty of the medieval village. Enjoy a cocktail in the evening in the main piazza overlooking the Tiber River valley below.
Amelia

Just 20 minutes from Giove, Amelia is a hilltop town of around 6000 inhabitants, surrounded by ancient Etruscan and Roman walls, with a beautiful Duomo (church) at the very top of the hill, with stunning views of the American valleys surrounding it. Park outside the walls and enter on foot to explore this ancient city.
Narni

The hilltop town upon which the Chronicles of Narnia are based on. This town has a Medieval castle at the top, as well as underground passageways you can visit with a guide, explaining Medieval history and the Inquisition chambers. Park in one of the many lots outside of the town and walk in to explore on your own time on foot. Just 30 minutes from Giove.

Ancient wine cellar caves: tour & tasting in nearby village

Sergio Mottura is one of Italy’s top quality and expert wine producers. During this activity, we will travel to a nearby village (20 minutes away) to visit ancient caves where wine is stored and aged. Will will hear all about the history of Umbrian wines and endemic Umbrian grapes, while tasting around 6 different bottles with the actual wine producer.

Pasta-making cooking class with light lunch and wine

Casale Delle Querce is a perfect setting for a cooking class and lunch. This activity is hands-on and open to up to 8 participants. It will be available outside of Jizelle & Tom’s celebration, to allow for wedding preparations. Pasta-making cooking class with lunch and wine is available until April 23 and from April 27 onwards. Learn to make pasta and to prepare 1 local pasta sauce with in-season ingredients from Umbria. Enjoy lunch and wine immediately afterwards.

Walking street food tour of Rome with light lunch and wine

Meet us in Rome (if you are not in Rome already, from Umbria you can drive to Rome or take the train - we will guide you through this process) at 10:30am to begin our street food tour with a typical Roman breakfast. We will walk and talk and share stories until we reach a bread and savory foods store for our lunch appetizer (typical Roman street food items we will enjoy in a piazza sitting on a bench - as the Romans do). Then we will enjoy a glass of wine in my family’s establishment before heading to a light Roman sit down lunch in a nearby restaurant.

Alice will listen to your wants and needs and will then put together an itinerary for you to follow on your own self-guided road trip tour of the villages in Umbria. This is perfect for anyone wanting to be independent and wanting to experience driving around the hill roads in Italy. The itinerary will be set to include 2 or 3 iconic villages, exact locations for lunch and snacks, as well as instructions on how to drive in Italy and information about parking in the various locations. Follow the prompts and enjoy your road trip!
