Giove, the small Umbrian village on the hill

An impressive castle built in 1100, medieval walls, perched on a hill, with 1800 inhabitants. Giove is a beautiful little village filled with history and locals ready to greet visitors. Only 3km up the hill from our villa and 10 minutes from the Attigliano train station and A1 Freeway exit

The Castello Di Giove o Palazzo Ducale:

Perched on a hilltop overlooking the Tiber Valley in Umbria, Castello di Giove dates back to 1191, originally built as a strategic military fortress before being transformed into an elegant Renaissance palace, by the noble Mattei family in the 17th century. Legend says that, in ancient times, this site was dedicated to the God Jupiter (or Giove), giving the fortress and surrounding village their distinctive name. One of its most amazing curiosities is an impressive interior spiral ramp designed so carriages could ascend directly to the noble floor “piano nobile”, alongside a massive layout featuring 365 windows… one for every day of the year!
